In view of the actual implementation of the new EMV standards, OTP Bank Romania will interrupt the operation of the card and ATM system between 02.03.2008, 0:00 hrs and 03.03.2008, 23:00 hrs. In practical terms, the cards issued by OTP Bank Romania SA cannot be used for payments or cash withdrawals, and the bank’s ATMs will not be functional in the aforementioned interval.

“Starting with March 2008, OTP Bank Romania SA will be able to process transactions with chip cards at its own ATM and POS terminals, in accordance with the latest applicable standards”, declared Mr. Adrian Chichita, Director of the Card Directorate – OTP Bank Romania S.A.

OTP Bank Romania will shortly launch the card acceptance service through POS, thus offering the merchants from Romania the opportunity to accept VISA and MasterCard as payment means, in advantageous conditions.
Since 2006, OTP Bank Romania has issued about 85,000 bank cards, under both MasterCard and Visa logos. OTP Bank Romania also has a national network of more than 120 ATMs.
