On this occasion, Mr Isarescu gave a lecture on “Romania: Economic and financial developments and EU”. Mr Isarescu analysed the Romanian macroeconomic performance in the past five years (high growth rates, declining inflation, reduction of fiscal deficit and public debt), as well as the monetary policy measures adopted with the aim to satisfy the criteria for EU accession. Besides Bank of Greece executives, the lecture was attended by presidents and executives of Greek commercial banks operating in Romania. Mr Isarescu had also the opportunity to meet with officials of Greek commercial banks.

The Bank of Greece is especially interested in such meetings and in the prospect of a close relationship with the National Bank of Romania, with which it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on supervision of banks operating in the two countries.
