Yesterday evening, Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG (RZB) and its CEE-subsidiary Raiffeisen International Bank-Holding AG received the award „Best Bank in Central and Eastern Europe” during a reception of the renowned British financial magazine Euromoney in London. At the same time, the Network Banks in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Slovakia received awards as „Best Bank” in their country. Raiffeisen Investment AG was elected as „Best Investment Bank in Montenegro”.

The RZB Group won the prize for the CEE-region already for the third consecutive time. Altogether, Raiffeisen received the regional „Euromoney Award for Excellence” for the fourth time after 1999, 2005 and 2006. The Euromoney-editors based their decision on the expansion of all business segments and the leading position in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Following the awards of The Banker in autumn 2006 and Global Finance this spring, the Euromoney-award is the third important appreciation by international media in a row for the RZB Group.

„This award once more validates our strategic approach, which we will follow consistently for the benefit of our customers,” said Walter Rothensteiner, CEO of RZB and Chairman of Raiffeisen International’s Supervisory Board. Herbert Stepic, CEO of Raiffeisen International, added, „We have more than doubled the number of customers to 12.5 million within the past two years. I am glad that Euromoney once again appreciated our growth dynamics.”

Best Bank in Albania

Also for the third consecutive time, Raiffeisen Bank Sh.a. went home with the title „Best Bank in Albania”. The bank was acquired by Raiffeisen International in 2004 and is Albania’s largest bank with a balance-sheet total of 1.8 billion euros (as at 31 March 2007).

Best Bank in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Raiffeisen Bank d.d. Bosna i Hercegovina won the local „Best Bank” award as in 2006. It is the country’s largest bank with a market share of more than 21 per cent.

Best Bank in Serbia

Raiffeisen banka a.d., Belgrade, is again setting a benchmark, having received the prize „Best Bank in Serbia” for the sixth consecutive time. Having started operations in mid-2001, the bank has been leading the local market already since late 2004.

Best Bank in Slovakia

Tatra banka a.s was chosen as „Best Bank in Slovakia”. Founded in 1991, it is today the third-largest bank both in Slovakia and the Raiffeisen International Group.

Best Investment Bank in Montenegro

Vienna-based Raiffeisen Investment AG (RIAG) was honoured as „Best Investment Bank in Montenegro”.

RZB-Board member Patrick Butler, who accepted the awards on behalf of the RZB Group at the gala, was convinced that the group’s extensive range of products was crucial for the success. „Our leading role in syndicated loans, the broad range of investment banking products or our innovative power in securitisation are adding to our strong presence in CEE.”
