Komerèní banka’s internal systems have not been disturbed
Prague, 23 August 2006 – KB emphatically dismisses certain information, published today, purporting that the bank’s internal systems have been abused.
In no case have the bank’s systems been disturbed. Komerèní banka has only registered ten cases of clients where attempts at abusing the clients’ personal computers have appeared. The bank is keeping in touch with all the clients affected, and has fully reimbursed the clients for the funds that have been siphoned off.
KB cooperates with the Police of the Czech Republic in the investigation of the case.
With a view to enhancing the security of its Internet banking KB is introdusing a new method for active transaction authorisation. All users of the mojebanka Internet banking channel who use personal certificates in a file for signing transactions, will henceforth also send their SMS authorisation code when making active operations. The SMS authorisation code is basically a one-time password that will be sent to the user via an SMS message and that will be a required part of authorisation by the client in active operations.
Thanks to these new measures, clients will be protected against this kind of fraud.
To further enhance security when the client uses a PC for communication with the bank, certain security rules must be observed. The key rules include, for example, storing the personal certificate on a portable storage device and in a safe place, at all times using the personal certificate in a file only when the client is logged in, setting proper limits for each of the transactions in relation with profile of client and his needs and activating message sending (SMS or e-mail) with information about all payments made from the bank account or payment card.
